Turning Miles into Milestones for a GBV-Free Future
One Mile, One Voice: Running to End GBV
Through collective action and the spirit of sportsmanship, the Kawempe Mile Race empowers participants and spectators alike to take a stand, spread awareness, and inspire change.
KAWEMPE MILE RACE
The Kawempe Mile Race was founded with a vision to turn every step into a force for positive change. In Kawempe, where diverse communities face unique social challenges, we saw the need for a united stand against gender-based violence (GBV). The race was born out of a desire to raise awareness, mobilize resources, and inspire both young and old to play an active role in ending GBV. Over the years, the Kawempe Mile Race has transformed from a local gathering to a powerful movement, bringing together people from all walks of life to support this critical cause.
Why We Run
In Uganda and around the world, gender-based violence remains a significant challenge, affecting countless lives. Our mission is to raise awareness, spark meaningful dialogue, and mobilize the community to prevent and eliminate GBV. Each mile represents resilience, courage, and the commitment of individuals and organizations to make a lasting difference. Together, we envision a society where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.
